I've seen all kinds of powerful things happen during One on One Meetings with me. Typically we are always looking at the companies internal financials and that fuels the conversation which can go off anywhere. Here's some consistent themes I've seen take place:
- Relating the financials to operations. I say that financials are like a work of art. They paint a picture of what's happening on the daily operations level. Understanding this, owners can always relate more personally with their numbers. Once it's personal, it's powerful.
- Educating the next generation. Every owner needs to groom the next level of would be leaders. Whether for succession planning, or growth, it needs to happen for the owner to have some sanity. I've had some great meetings teaching the next gen about how to read the financials and making the connection that what they do everyday contributes directly to these numbers. Awareness, plus personal connection equals buy in and power.
- Awareness. Sometimes you really just need to stop and face the facts. We've all had to do this, and sometimes it just sucks. I have no problem sharing the lessons I've learned the hard way. If this helps one person avoid the problem, it doesn't get better then that. I've found its been really valuable for my clients to talk with me one on one as a fellow business owner to tackle some of their issues. Every industry is unique for sure, but a huge part of what keeps us up at night is the same underlying problems. Sales, growing pains, finding talent, managing expenses... Sounds familiar right!
No matter what, it's a beauty to see the business owner get a moment to stop, take a breath, and think about their business with no interruptions and brain storm with another entrepreneur. We always come up with good, exciting ideas.
